On "Cowboys of the Sky"
-
David G. Jones, Jr.....8/12/2002..."Mine is
close to the "Sunship Game" vision of Marfa, thunderstorms and
elegant exotic German flying machines. In my vision there are no
real pilots, they are only implied. I guess that kind of obviates
the "cowboy" part. I guess I find the life of summer
soaring so evocative, but it is not any one person. It is not even
like that so much in the present as it was in the Marfa Worlds or other
early Hobbs and Minden days. "
D. Purtell...My friend
David Jones of Aspen, Colorado along
with West Texas soaring legends, Jim Crisp and Werner Birkelbach, were
all three towed by Bill Shurley's famed Ag Wagon in a simultaneous triple tow
in Marfa, Texas. The moment was captured on film by the world renowned
soaring photographer, Sandor Aldott. The triple tow image is
displayed in the Marfa Museum.
